MAI Annual Iftar The Muslim Alliance of Indiana (MAI) sponsors an Annual Iftar during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. Muslims fast from dawn to dusk during the month of Ramadan. At sunset time Muslims host iftars which are the breaking of the fast. MAI invites interfaith guests to these events every year. Past participants include: Former Indianapolis Mayor Bart Peterson, former Deputy Mayor Melina Kennedy, Governor Mitch Daniels office, (Late) Congresswoman Julia Carson, Congressman Andre Carson, Judge David Shaheed, City Councilman Patrice Abduallah, Indiana Democratic Party Chair Dan Parker amonst others. The Iftar is open to everyone in the community and over 400 Hoosiers attend every year. |
